Headed out with NPIKE for some pond action today. First hole I put the vex in lit up like a xmas tree and soon after a small crappie. We are thinking this is gonna be a good day. About ten minutes later and only some pringle gills, I start drilling and searching. I drop the chubby darter down and see something eyeballing it. Then bam fish on! She hit it like a freight train. Thinking that this is a nice pike I was pleasantly surprised to find this pond holds smallies!

Taped up at 17.5" that made my day right there, not even an hour in.

About 20 minutes later my flag pops, feels like another nice fish drag screaming I am thinking a decent pike. Once again surprised again when we see the head of this beast all 24 inches of her!

I had serious thoughts about keeping my PB largie and putting her on the wall, but I think she deserved to fight again another day. I bid farewell and told her that I will see her come springtime.

I never said most of the things I said.

Nice to see trophy size fish in IL waters close to home.
